My String quilt

I have not yet blogged about this one yet. I love working on this, it is so fun, I'm just going to keep adding to it and adding to it till it's about queen size...maybe.

This is one of my favorite squares!

And here is the construction part of it....

And this pink square is one of my favorites as well!

Sew N Tell Friday

This week was really busy for me, all I was able to finish was a pin cushion and a cute bag.
I have noticed once I am done making a quilt I will make a pin cushion out of the fabrics.

these are the fabrics I used in my snowball quilt.

And then I whipped up this tranquility bag earlier this week. No pattern used! I just made up my own.  Click Here if you want to see my original post about it.
Anyway...now I need to get busy with fall cleaning! I have to put all my summer clothes away (even though next week will be in the 90's)  And I'm going to get out my fall decorations!

1st Place

I entered 2 quilts in the County Fair and they both received 1st Place in the Beginner Division.
This is my applique quilt that I made up myself-did not have a pattern. I also quilted it myself. This is one of my favorite quilts. It won in the Applique catagory.

Here it is displayed at the fair.

This is my other favorite quilt that won in the Pieced Catagory. The Pattern is called Birds in the Air and I quilted this one myself as well.
It was pretty cool seeing my quilts displayed at the fair.

Here are some other quilts...much more amazing then mine

I want to try to make something like this. It's all applique'

Sling Bag

I have been wanting to make one for quite some time but could not find the right pattern. I have the big fancy purses for work but hate lugging them around on the weekends or when I go to a festival, fair or quilt show (which I have been going to a lot)
So finally, I found this Tranquility panel in my stash and thought it would be cute for a bag.

So after searching for a purse pattern...... I made my own!

And this is the inside with a cute little pocket.

Then I just cut a curve where I knew the sides would be. It's actually harder to explain
than to just do. I wish I knew how to give instructions because it really only took me about an hour. The red fabric was cut 4" wide.

And the straps are finished at 2" which means I cut it at 4 1/4 for the fold over and seem allowance.
Doesn't this look like something you would find at Target?  Thanks for looking!

In the Jungle

This is another charity quilt, It's completely finished! I got the binding done late last night.

It took me quite a while because I decided to hand stitch the binding on the back. I just love the look of it although it is very time consuming.
And here is the whole quilt. I didn't piece it. I just added a border to it.
And then I did wavy lines going down it.
Thanks for looking!

Snowballs in September?

These kind are just fine!
I got the inspiration from Snowball night. Click on the red box on my sidebar!
These are 8 1/2 inch blocks. I put plain white fabric at the top cuz I'm going to do some really cute applique shapes. I just can't commit yet...Still deciding whether or not I should do circles or flowers..or, the options are endless.

And I absolutely love the border! These are some of my favorite fabrics.

To Quilt or not to quilt?

I just love this saying, I want to make it into a wall hanging for my sewing room. I want to have a bunch of  tiny blocks surrounding it. I have had the stitchery done for about 6 months...just never had time to do anything with it.
And I'm starting to get overloaded with so many unfinished projects! I have started so many things and feel like I never have time to finish them!! I cannot start another thing! This weekend will be all about finishing....No Startings.

a touch of ruffle...

Remember my plain white $1.49 tank top from Hancock fabrics?

Well look what a little bit of ruffles do...
Yes I know that the ruffles are not completely straight, I think we only notice because it is a still photo. But in real life I'm not a manequin and I actually got a bunch of compliments on it. And the lace on the top is actually from a tank top underneath...doesn't it just poke out perfectly?
So not too bad for $1.49 huh?

It's Monday already?

This weekend flew by. I really only have time to sew on the weekends and I didn't get much done.

This tank top was on sale at Hancocks for $1.49. I grabbed it, i'm going to put white ruffles on it so I can wear it under a cardigan. Now I just need to find the time.

So here is the rest of my to do list:
Make a pincushion for a friend
finish the border around my "to quilt or not to quilt" wall hanging
And I still need to attach the binding to my now & later quilt..
Oh and I need to finish hand binding my "in the jungle" quilt.
Instead of all this I know I will be stuck washing dishes, doing laundry, ironing, blah, blah.
I get so tempted to hire a house cleaning person...

Longarm status

Here is another quilt that will be going to a little one at one of our local shelters..
I am getting better with the swirls!! So excited how they are turning out. I can't believe how fun longarm quilting is.

Then this happens!
Then this! Not so fun anymore right? The thread kept breaking everytime I would try to do another swirl! I tried new thread, rethreading, rebobbying, cleaning, changing needles. So then I went to a sewing machine shop by my house (it was my first visit) and he told me that I probably have my quilt on the frame too tight! Hello?  that makes sense because sometimes the machine is a dream to sew on and sometimes it will just break the thread for no apparent reason??
So for my next quilt i need to acknowledge that!
But I did manage to do wavy lines thru the quilt. I think it turned out so cute!
Now I need to attach the binding then you will see pix of the entire quilt!

Now & Later

I was able to finish the quilting on this one. I did an all over swirl and in the purple border I did a different type of swirl that PieceNquilt demonstrates on her blog.
I have to laugh about it cuz it looks nothing like hers. My swirls are kinda sloppy..but does that make a quilt less comfy?  Of course not! That is one thing I appreciate about myself, I know that the quilting can only get better from here, it just takes a lot of practice.

And here is the overall finish. I think it looks cool from this view. You can't really  see the imperfections and the swirls in the border look cool! This is a charity quilt and I'm sure whoever gets this won't mind the not-so-perfect swirls either.

And then for the stripe border I just did circles...I had no idea what else to do. I am horrible at straight line quilting on the long arm. Now I just have to attach the binding.
Thanks for looking! And there are many more finishes on http://www.amylouwho.com/

Quilts for Charity

My friend from work is doing  a service project with our local University and they are visiting all the local shelters in October. He said they are always in need of baby quilts, quilts for kids so I volunteered to make  a few. I wanted to have 10 quilts to give away. This is what I have so far:

I have 5 that are quilted and binded and ready to go!

I'm going to get this one quilted tomorrow..can't wait, I'm going to use some techniques from Piece N' Quilt's Blog. I just love long arm quilting!

And here is another one I'm working on. For some reason as soon as I layed this one out Zuko went and got comfy on it!  He is so cute but I'm just realizing he needs a hair cut.
Stay Tuned for tomorrow when I show you them after they are quilted.

If you click on my charity quilts tab you can see each quilt in more detail.

project runway skirt

Okay, i have one more Sew N' Tell
This is another project I was trying to finish this week. And I got it done.
Even attached the zipper on the side!

keep looking at all the other projects....

Mr "Plad" Boy

Quilted and Binded just in time for Sew N' Tell Friday!
Such a basic quilt that I whipped up using all my left over plaid fabrics.
And for the quilting part of it I just did an all over stipple since that is really all I'm good at.
And i'm excited at how the binding turned out. Usually it only looks good when i hand bind it but I used my machine on this one and it turned out great. Click here to read more about how I am slowly perfecting my binding skills!
